Let’s face it, shaving is a daunting task, which we try to put off for as long as possible. With cuts, scrapes, rashes and bumps becoming common during the battle, it’s safe to say that shaving has become something we dread rather than love.

So, how do we change that? How can we make shaving an easier, less painful process? In this article, we will give you 5 tips to do just that!

Exfoliate

Our first tip begins before you pick up the razor. One of the things we often forget is to exfoliate our skin, before shaving. Exfoliating beforehand helps to keep the razor from getting clogged up with dead skin, providing a smoother shave. A simple Loofah will work.

Focus on hair growth direction

A smooth shave as close to the skin as possible is something we all want. So, pay attention to the flow of hair. The majority of leg hair grows on a downtrend. So, we recommend shaving upwards for the best results.

On your underarm, shave in an upward direction first and then downward to get the smoothest results.

Never shave dry skin.

Sometimes you find yourself shaving in a rush. Before a night out and the girls are on their way! So, it may sound easier to just whip out the razor and have a quick shave. But, shaving on dry skin increases the chance of cutting the skin and causing rashes.

Be sure to take your time when shaving. Never shave on dry skin. The best results come when using shaving foam or a product of that sort. The best results will come when you’ve exfoliated 10 minutes before, which allows the skin to soften.

Once shaven, close your pores

Warm water softens the skin and also opens our pores. This is something we want to reverse once shaven to keep the bacteria at bay. After you shave, rinse thoroughly with warm water and then cold water to close the pores.

The process of wax hair removal leaves pores open. Apply a moisturizer after to protect the pores further.

Always wear sunscreen

It’s more than likely you’ve heard this rule before - and with good reason! Protecting our skin from sun damage is essential. After shaving, your skin becomes more sensitive than usual, so any sun damage is heightened.

Apply sun lotion after your shave to keep a barrier from the sun.
